Hello. I’m Sophie

I have always loved theatre and stories and the impact they can have on us.

As a consultant and theatre producer my role is to remove the barriers faced by both artists and audiences to bring people together and allow the opportunity for life enhancing cultural experiences.

For organisations and local authorities this means supporting strategic development, governance and developing long term financial sustainability to ensure they can deliver their cultural ambitions.

For theatre makers I help to remove the financial, management and administrative challenges associated with creating and touring work, so that artists can focus on what they do best – creating extraordinary cultural experiences.

I have been a self-employed consultant and theatre producer since 2022.

Before stepping out my own, I was Director & Chief Executive of The Spring, an arts centre and museum in Havant, Hampshire. For over 9 years I led the organisation through an extraordinary transformation. During my tenure we launched an exciting outreach programme, joined Arts Council England’s National Portfolio (in 2018 and writing the successful 2022 application too), commissioned nationally-renowned artists to create bespoke experiences for the local community and developed the UK’s first Play Artist in Residence programme. We increased the organisation’s turnover by 97% and (pre-Covid) increased audiences by 96%. I also led the organisation through a number of changes including a re-brand, staffing restructures and, of course, a global pandemic.

I am proud to be the Chair of Trustees for Forest Forge Theatre Company.

Previous employment includes:

General Manager for Forest Forge, a touring theatre company based in the New Forest

Audience Development and Marketing Manager for Salisbury Arts Centre (now part of Wiltshire Creative)

Press and Marketing Officer for The Courtyard, Herefordshire’s Centre for the Arts.

I hold a Post-Graduate diploma (distinction) in Arts Management from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

In 2023 I moved to Frome with my husband and son, a tortoise called Humphrey and a ridiculous number of books. You can often find me in the garden, attempting to grow vegetables and getting cross with slugs.
